SoundPLAN, a developer of noise simulation software, will present its latest research and software developments for noise prediction and control, including for open-air events, at Inter-Noise 2024.
This year, the annual international congress on noise control engineering takes place in Nantes, France, on 25-29 August 2024 at La Cité Nantes Congress Centre. Visitors can find out more about SoundPLAN’s noise prediction software, including forthcoming updates, and its consulting services and noise reports.
New noise prediction software developments
SoundPLAN is currently developing the next edition of its software for indoor and outdoor noise analysis, SoundPLANnoise. Designed for creating high-quality noise surveys, from standard investigations to special tasks, SoundPLANnoise version 9.1. incorporates a range of new features and software enhancements to model levels and dispersion of noise and help prevent its harmful effects. The team is also working on the latest update to its SoundPLANessential noise-mapping software, version 6.0. The software is designed for standard noise reports for smaller-scale developments or occasional projects.
Noise management at open-air events
SoundPLAN says proactive noise predictions are indispensable in averting noise-related issues at open-air events in urban areas; however, integrating coherent sound sources from diverse manufacturers into noise forecasts requires an open exchange format for sound system planning software and environmental noise software. The company adds that the need to work with coherent sound sources in sound reinforcement systems lies in the precise modelling of the directivity, especially for low frequencies.
Collaboratively, d&b audiotechnik, L-Acoustics and SoundPLAN are developing a standardised exchange format between loudspeaker manufacturers’ sound system planning software and noise pollution software. This SDE (Sound/System Design/Data Exchange/Export) format is intended to facilitate an easy exchange of information between sound systems engineers and environmental acousticians, for accurate acoustic simulations.
At the event, SoundPLAN’s managing director, Jochen Schaal, together with Daniel Belcher from d&b audiotechnik and Yann Gaël Gicquel from L-Acoustics, will give an exhibitor workshop presentation on SDE, the connection between art and noise, addressing the challenges of noise pollution at various frequencies at open-air events, and technical developments. This workshop takes place on 27 August and will incorporate a live demonstration using SoundPLAN software, showcasing the practical implementation of the SDE format.
