At Prolight + Sound (held on 8-11 April in Frankfurt, Germany), Obsidian Control Systems previewed its latest lighting control development. The NXW is a portable PC control wing designed to bring professional-grade power to any Onyx setup.
Through its USB-C connection, the NXW provides a hardware surface to operate Onyx on any PC system. Designed for freelancers, touring professionals, and fixed installs alike, the NXW is designed to deliver everything lighting operators love in a compact, road-ready form. Features include RGB-backlit motorised playback faders, RGB-backlit keycaps, and customisable multifunction buttons, all designed to boost speed, precision and creativity.
“The NXW might be small in size, but it’s packed with features our users have been asking for,” said Koy Neminathan, business development director at Obsidian. “Whether you’re working live on stage or pre-programming at home, this little powerhouse delivers. It’s responsive, flexible, and ready for anything.”
The product’s key features include 10 motorised faders with RGB backlight; low-latency optical buttons with RGB backlight; a programming keypad plus 10 multifunction buttons; four RGB parameter encoders; four integrated DMX/RDM ports; a Gigabit network port; and 16-Universe Onyx essential license (upgradeable to 128 via USB license port).
Obsidian Control Systems said that the NXW is built to match the layout and feel of larger NX consoles, so any user of Onyx will feel instantly familiar with it. It is designed to be ergonomic, comfortable, lightweight, and ready to use instantly when plugged into the Onyx PC system, with no setup or additional installation required.
The NXW is expandable with the NXP motorised fader wing and can act as an add-on to the NX1 console. The expandable design allows users to adapt their setup to any size production or control environment.
